This Weeks Homework & Events

PARENTS.....WE NEED YOU TO:

*Have your student logged on to TEAMS by 8:30 each day.

*Help make sure your student is ready to learn. This means workbooks and materials are near them, computer is charged or plugged in and they are spot conducive to learning.

*Sign up for a class DOJO account (info to be sent out when school starts)

* Keep an open line of communication. We are all in this together. We must work together.

FOCUS Trouble??

If you are having trouble trying to access FOCUS contact the FOCUS technical support team at:

Technical Support for Parent/Guardian Accounts

Email: pga_support@duvalschools.org or call 844-744-9351.

Your student can also log in using their username and password.

Free Breakfast and Lunch!

Sheffield offers free breakfast and lunch to our students. Students must eat breakfast before they come to class. No sign up required. Student's participating in Duval Homeroom can pick up meals at the school each day if needed from 9:30-10:30. Instruction will still be taking place during this time.

Conferences

If you would like to schedule a conference let us know. Your child and their success is out top priority so we want to make the most of our conference time. Pop in conferences are not as productive as scheduled ones. Morning conferences can be scheduled from 7:45-8:15 and afternoon ones from 3:00-3:30 Thank you for your understanding. Other time may be worked out according to the daily schedule.

Daily Recess

In compliance with House Bill 769 students will receive 20 minutes of recess. Even though your student may be working through Duval Homeroom doesn't mean they can't use a break. We will use a variety of brain breaks each day and have built in time to step away from the comptuer.

Yellow Tuesday Folders

Yellow folders will be sent home each Tuesday with any school wide communication. This could include flyers, fundraisers or field trip information. Please be on the look out for these folders each Tuesday. We are hoping that by sending information home once a week more parents will feel informed. Continue to read the agenda daily though. Class notes and homework will still be posted in there during the week if needed.

**Students enrolled in Duval Homeroom will receive communication through class DOJO**

Homework will begin around the first week of September. More information to come soon.

Breaks will be provided, but this will mirror the school day as much as possible. Check out the DCPS website for up to date information on Duval Homeroom. You can also find contact information to aide you in you need assistance beyond what the school can provide. TEAMS will continue to be used to deliver lessons to students daily. Please don't be afraid to ask questions. This year is going to be a work in progress. :)

Daily Class Schedule

Our school day starts at 8:30 and ends at 2:40. It is my goal that impactful instruction is going on during these times. Please look below at our schedule. This may guide you when making appointments. Your child can only be taught if they are present and accountable during class time. Thank you in advance for honoring our time with your student.

Click to view the schedule. Please keep in mind the schedule may change depending on testing and events.

Beginning of the Year Testing

3rd grade students will take a variety of beginning of the year assessments (benchmark testing). These tests are NOT graded, but they do drive instruction and let us know what we need to focus on. All data will be shared with parents and individual students when testing is complete. At this time we do NOT know 100% how testing will take place for Duval Homeroom students. We will keep everyone posted.

Computer Work

In 3rd grade students are expected to complete:

*At least 45 minutes of i-Ready Reading and Math

*2-4 Achieve 3000 articles (70% or higher for a score on the first attempt will help them build their reading level)

The lessons and levels of each of these programs are based on your student's performance on the beginning of the year assessments and their scores on the articles and lessons.

Achieve 3000 is new for incoming 3rd graders. Achieve 3000 mirrors the FSA format and is primarily all non-fiction articles. At this time FSA has NOT been cancelled for the 2020-2021 school year.

All work on any DCPS computer program can and will be monitored so we will be encouraging all students to be responsible on these programs and take them seriously. No click monsters allowed.
